sir,
With reference to the telegraphic correspondence
ending with your telegram to the Foreign Office No.542
of the 2nd June, I have the honour to enclose a copy of
the letter I addressed to the Commissioner for Foreign
Affairs on the subject of the "Tean" piracy.
2. I supported this communication with strong verbal
representations. Mr. Chm Chae-hsin promised to bring
the matter before a Government Council meeting that
aftermoen and I subsequently received from him the en-
closed letter stating that immediate instructions had
been given to despatch troops and a gunboat to Has Bay.
3. Marshal Li Chai-sum attended my reception in honour
of the King's Birthday yesterday, when he further in-
formed me that 500 soldiers had been sent to Bias Bay
from the Wai show semand, and that they were being sup-
ported by two naval vessels. It will be interesting te
see whether the Hongkong authorities san confirm this
information and ascertain what actually is being done on
the spot. I may say that in my conversations with Mr.
Ckm I have already used the language indicated in your
telegram referred to above.
I have, ete..
